The Brewster Fire Department is located at Brewster,Ks in Thomas Co.
Brewster is located next to the Sherman/Thomas Co. line. I'm
not aware of what territory The BFD handles in Thomas Co. besides
the city of Brewster. In Sherman Co. they handle fire calls
west to County Road 30. Plus North to the Sherman/Cheyenne Co.
line and South to the Sherman/Wallace Co. line. I'm also not
sure how the politics work between Sherman and Thomas Counties
for the joint Fire Department but it works. Anyone living in the Brewster Fire
District is glad to have them whenever they are needed.
The volunteers and Chief are available to handle calls 24 hrs a
day everyday of the year. They have responded to all kinds of
different fires and at times accidents. The residents of Brewster
probably know the ones who work the BFD better than maybe people
who live in Sherman Co. so hopefully through this site we all
can get to know each other better.
The Brewster Fire Chief takes care of the burn permits required
of Sherman Co. residents. Before anyone living in the Brewster
fire district can do any burning in the Sherman Co. areas they
must contact the Fire Chief and get a permit number. Once they
have a permit number they call Central Dispatch to report the
control burn and give the permit number to the dispatcher. Central
Dispatch pages the BFD out whenever there is a fire call in Sherman
Co. plus there is a phone number to call to ring the firephones
in the homes of the volunteers.
At this time I do not have any pictures to post for the BFD but
have found one of an older firetruck. Things have changed and
equipment and knowledge to help fight fires has improved. All
of the firefighters have to keep learning and training to know
the best and safest ways to fight the different types of fires
they respond to.
I have tried to give the basics of our Brewster Fire Department.
