05-25-09 On May 19, 2009 the ambulance service as well as Goodland Regional Medical Center gave tours to the 2nd Grade students from Goodland USD 352. The students were able to see and ask questions about the ambulance service, the emergency room, and radiology. The EMS have several events they will be involved in during the month of June. On June 9, 2009 they will be doing extrication training with Sherman County Rural Fire starting at approximately 7:00 pm at Alex’s Radiator & Repair. EMS will be involved with the Slice of Life Benefit Golf Tournament and Auction coming up the weekend of June 26th-28th at Sugar Hills Golf Club. Bruce is planning for the EMS to be at Wal Mart on June 20th as part of their safety awareness, this depends on finding the staff to help in this endeavor. Bruce also advised if you are interested you can attend some of the EMS training to see what EMS is about, what they do and why they do it.

The CAD lists the following calls for the EMS since the last update.

• 42 Flight for Life runs.
• 76 Calls for medical or accident incidents.
• 32 Transports to other Hospitals.
• 06 Standbys at various events and incidents.
• 21 Vehicle Maintence

The following is a list of the codes the EMS use when referring to their patients.

• Code Black...Patient presumed or obviously dead


• Code Blue...Patient in cardiopulmonary arrest. Patient is pulseless and apneic.


• Code Red...Patient is critical, the patient's injuries are or could be a threat to their life if not treated immediately.


• Code Yellow...Patient needs medical attention however there may not be an immediate life threat.


• Code Green...Patient may or may not need medical attention, patient may refuse treatment/transport to hospital.
