05-28-09 The GPD officers have been taking various training courses to stay current in ways to handle their jobs. They all have learned more on Stalking Awareness. Plus Sgt. Gillespie has taken a week long course on how to determine what kind/type of drugs a person may be taking. Some changes will be occurring for the Animal Control Officer Kim Gillespie now that the city has passed a new animal ordinance. One of the changes in this ordinance is cats will have to be registered the same as dogs.

02-20-09 At this time I believe the GPD is back to running with a full staff. Kody has completed his training at KLETC and now a certified police officer. Bill is back to work after being off several weeks due to a job related injury. I'm sure all the officers are glad to have everyone back.

Congratulations to Jim Gillespie for being promoted from patrol officer to Sergeant. Also Greg Kroskey and Bill Fulcher being promoted from Corporals to Sergeants. They each have their own crew of officers to work the rotating shifts.

Last week the GPD officers had to take training to be recertified to use their tazers. They are also going to be taking training to use the Intoxilizer 8000. This is the newest Intoxilizer to come out and is suppose to be better to use for DUI cases.
