Since the last Update the CAD shows the following calls were handled by the BFD.
  • 10-22-07...Combine Fire, 8 1/2 N. 1 E. of Brewster
  • 10-26-07...Grass Fire, 3300 Road 75
  • 11-09-07...Combine Fire, S. of Brewster 1 N of 2nd curve
  • 11-18-07...Grass Fire, 213 Road Q
  • 11-19-07...Grass Fire, 2645 Road 77
From on going talks with the Sherman Co Commissioners it appears that in the future the Brewster, Kanorado, and SHCO Rural Fire Departments will all be under one Fire Chief. With changing rules and regulations it is making it harder for small departments to handle all the paperwork involved. I'm not sure what all will change but it may make it easier for everyone to get their training etc. When I know more of the details I will post them to this page.

On Feb. 5th there will be a training class in Colby put on by the Pipeline Assn. There are pipelines running through this area and occassionally things can go wrong. It helps to know what to do in case of an emergency. Click Here to view the BFD Slideshow showing the pipeline fire in Wyoming.

  • 06-28-07...Grass Fire in Area of MM 28 I-70
Thanks to Assist Fire Chief Jamison I have been able to add a slideshow to the BFD Page. At this time there is just one show and it covers an event that occurred near Cheyenne Wy but it could happen in our area. It is of a gas pipeline eruption and the blaze it caused.

Rex's friend that shared the pictures had this to say about the fire: It was a 36 inch pipe. At the time of the explosion is had 942 psi running through it and the gas runs both directions. The pipeline supplied Wyoming and Colorado. All that can be said is thank God that they only lost one person in the accident. It could have been much worse. Click Here to view the BFD Slideshow.

Things continue to be fairly quiet for the BFD, since the last update the CAD shows one call for a vehicle fire on I-70 at mm 36.

03-19-07
The CAD system shows no entries for the BFD since the last update.

The CAD System shows the BFD helped with a controlled burn at Rd V and Rd 6, on 12-10-06. I'm not sure if this was a burn that was starting to get out of control or if they were on a stand by. If anyone has more information they would like to have printed send me the details and I will post it. Also on 12-10-06 the BFD was called to a residence in the 6300 block of Road 35 because it was reported there was a fire in the yard.

I have not made any contacts as of yet with any of the Firefighters of the BFD so do not know anything about their training etc. I hope to eventually be able to post more info for the BFD.

It has been a few months since I have made a new post to the BFD page. I have learned that Brian Horney no longer lives in the area due to transferring elsewhere with his KHP job. His name has been removed as one of the BFD Firefighters.

Some of the calls BFD has handled in the past few months include a structure fire, June 20th, on Rock Island Av in Brewster. Grass fires July 18th near MM 42 East Bound I-70, July 31st at 2910 Road 74, and Aug. 5th at 700 Illinois. A stand by call on Sept. 9th at the Brewster High School. A Fire call Sept. 16th, classified as Misc, uknown to me what it involved at 115 Nebraska. October 5th, a vehicle fire near mm 37.5 east bound I-70.

Thanks guys for being there when needed!

I have not made any contacts as of yet with any of the Firefighters of the BFD so do not know anything about their training etc. I hope to eventually be able to post more info for the BFD.

There was an accident on April 4th where the driver ran off the roadway and wrecked near mm 40 on I-70, where the BFD responded. I do not have all the details but the driver died in this accident, he may have had a heart attack before the fire/accident occurred. Not a pleasant scene for the ones having to work this accident.

In the mean time I can post a few things where we have the record of calls handled by the firefighters. There was a controlled burn that became uncontrolled on April 30th in Sherman Co. but was still in the BFD area. The Farmer had not reported he was going to do a controlled burn and then it got out of control. I'm not sure how that works when the burn was not reported a head of time. Everyone is suppose to call Central Dispatch before they do any burning.

On May 27th BFD worked a grass fire that was getting out of control, thus the RFD was called to assist in bring the fire under control before it made it to some area homes. Good Job Guys and Gals for saving the homes!

This is just a brief add on to this update because I do not have any other information to report. Since the first of the year, dispatch shows the BFD was called to 2 grass fires and 2 vehicle fires. If there were more incidents I do not have any info about it. I am also posting the current Firefighter list to this page. If anyone reading this has training or other information they would like to see about the BFD please send me the info. Thanks

This Update will be brief because I don't have a lot to work with as of yet. It has been 2 years since I last wrote any of these for this website. Check the Home Page Link at the top of this page to read more on the beginning of this site and why it was stopped for awhile.

Until I can start receiving better updates for this page I suggest you read the Original Page to learn more on what the BFD does and what areas they cover in Sherman Co.. There are also a few Previous Updates that you can also read. I have the links shown in a different color or you can find both the original and previous updates by clicking on the Archive Link at the top of this page.

I hope this go round that I'm able to receive more information about the BFD's activities. I know the volunteer firefighters care enough to fight the fires. Now I hope at least one will help give information to make this page more interesting.

To help this page get better use the following link to send me ideas and information about the BFD training and activities. I will need at least one firefighter's help with giving information for these updates.

Brewster Fire and Rural Fire both worked to save a major disaster when the Brewster Stuckeys burned a few weeks ago. Just keeping the fire away from the gas pumps was quite a job. BFD is working with the State Fire Marshall trying to find the cause of this fire.
