I am currently working on updating all the department pages and hopefully I get some good info to help keep the pages interesting. I have recently added a forum to the site. I have received some nice comments from different people that have seen the site and I would like to share but unable to do so. With a forum anyone can add their thoughts about the different departments etc. The only thing I request is to keep things civil or the comment will be deleted. The forum link is at the top of this page and will be added to the other pages when they are updated.
Some other links that may be of interest are from the Goodland Weather Service. The GWS will be holding a Storm Spotter and Safety Class in Goodland on Weds. March 18th. The class will be at the National Guard Armory, 720 E Armory Road next to the NWS, at 6:30 pm MDT. It is free of charge and is intended for all age groups interested in High Plains severe weather. This program is conducted only once every year by NWS Meteorologists, so please attend this fun and educational training in Goodland. This year’s class will present basic spotter training during the first hour with advanced training during the second hour. For more information, contact the Goodland NWS at 785-899-7119. A listing of the 2009 Spotter Training Schedule across the Tri-State Area is available in the Top News of the Day on the Goodland NWS web page: www.weather.gov/gld/. Also from the GWS is the lastest copy of High Plains WIND.

Fall is upon us if the past few days are a hint of what is to come. It became a bit chilly but not as bad as it could have been. KDOT is getting ready for the Winter weather by sponsoring a class Oct 16th in Colby covering the Snow and Ice season. Rumor has it the state won't be working the highways as much this winter. Hopefully it won't be to bad, the Almanac is calling for very cold but maybe we won't have tons of snow and ice to worry about. But just in case we do get a lot of snow here is a link to show you How to Build an Igloo. If you would like to read the most current Newsletter put out by the Weather Service Click Here.
Some of the Those That Serve updates are pretty bare on any real news but the GFD and RFD both have new slideshows with pictures from various events they have been involved. I would be happy to post more pictures from all the departments covering training classes etc. Just send the info to me to be included with the next update.
With Halloween here in a couple of weeks I thought I'd include a couple of links you might enjoy. The first shows you How to Make a Realistic Looking Ghost out of Fencing. It looks pretty neat in the pictures if you have the time and talent to build one. If you prefer just reading some Fun Halloween Pages you can find one Here.

This round of updates have been completed for all departments that sent me information. The RFD and GFD both have new slideshows to view so check out their pages. I've been promised pictures taken during the dust storm and I will post them to the S.O. page when I receive them. Anyone that has pictures taken from a local event and would like to share them, send them to me and I will do my best to get them posted.
I have made a new page about Cop Stereotypes in the Eyes of the Beholder I hope it brings a smile or two to the ones reading it. Also Flag Day is this month so to help remember it view The Ragged Old Flag by the late great Johnny Cash.
Check out the Awards Page to see Barb Disney as this Update's Atta Girl. Send me your recommendations to give this award for the next updates.
I hope the severe weather that has been going around comes to a halt! In the meantime whenever there are warnings and watches I hope everyone stays safe. There are a lot of people that help during the tornado warnings and things can get bad when the weather roars in like it has for neighboring counties.
Thanks Until Next Time Be Careful Out There!

I have finished this round of updates the best that I could. I know everyone is busy and doing their jobs and must think that someone else is going to give me info for this site. But that someone didn't do a very good job except for GFD and RFD.
I'm hoping we get through the rest of March and April without any severe weather. Several took the Weather Tornado Spotter Class that was given Weds Night. Dave from the weather service does a good job in passing on the information needed to learn how to spot what is and isn't a dangerous cloud formation. So we are getting closer to severe thunderstorm and tornado season but we're not out of danger for more blizzards. For a lighter look at Tornado Information Click Here.
I'm wanting to get the Classified Ads section of this site up and running. I will soon have a House for Sale listing and have plans for others. If anyone working in any of the 911 Departments covered under this site wants to sell something let me know. To start with there will be no charge for the ones working in these departments. Then later if it becomes successful the cost will be reasonable.
It is almost St Patrick's Day and I'd like to send out Irish Good Wishes to each of you. Plus with Easter being so early this year I also want to wish everyone a Happy Easter. For an Easter Slidehow Click Here. The pictures show several Bronze Scenes about Jesus and his Crucifixion from a park in Groom Tx. Someday I would like to visit this display in person because it looks awesome in the pictures. Plus for fun you can find out the answer to one of life's little mysteries.....Why The Easter Bunny Always Waves.
Thanks to Alan for this Update's Award being given.

I have finished this round of updates which is pretty puny. Once again I'm not getting feedback from most of the departments for things to add to their pages. It makes it hard to try and keep this site fresh without input. I send out notices just before I plan on doing the updates asking for info because I am not like the newspaper calling every few days to get the latest information. I enjoy making this site but not when I have to do it without help from the departments. The GFD and RFD do well in keeping their happenings reported and I thank them for that.
From now on when I am ready to do updates I will send out the notices and will update with the information returned. If nothing is returned I will leave the page as is. Maybe each department could have one person become responsible to gather and send info they would like to see posted. I read in the paper different things happening that I think would have been nice to post here but no info given. Such as the awards given by the Sheriff to the 2 Kanorado men that helped rescue the kidnapped woman. Also I recently read that the RFD gave smoke detectors to one of the apartment buildings in Goodland. I know different ones take training in all the departments or they are giving training etc. Yet I can't report what I'm not being told.
There will be a Donations Management workshop held in Goodland on Monday, February 11th from 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM MT. It will be held at the Sherman County 4-H Building at the fairgrounds. This is a free class with no registration necessary. This class will help everyone understand more on how to handle donations during major events such as tornado etc. What will and will not be helpful to donate for both the ones giving and the ones receiving. This will be a brief update....There are new slideshows for the RFD and GFD covering things as the Jet Crash at Renner Field, Training Sessions, Halloween Activities, etc. I will do further updates in January. If your department has something you would like posted please send it to me during the 1st part of Jan. Until then I Wish Everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
I have posted a new Christmas Page for Law Enforcement on my other website... One Special Christmas that you may enjoy.

This round of updates have been completed although except for the RFD and GFD updates are small. These 2 departments have new slideshows; thanks to the ones that provided me with pictures to post. KHP has one new slideshow thanks to Crissy for taking pictures of the Rollover vehicle they showed during the Fair. So if you think your departments update is not as good as it could be please send me the information you would like to see posted. I enjoy doing this site but it will take active help from the various departments to keep it interesting. I send out emails to everyone that I have an address as a reminder to send info when I'm ready to do another update. That is all I can do, I'm not the newspaper going out and collecting my own pictures and news accounts.
I have given the current Atta Boy/Girl Award to the RFD and GFD for all the work they have been doing with the kids. It takes time and dedication to help save a child's life.
Fall is falling fast it seems or better word for it today is blowing in! The wind is really kicking up today and the leaves you may have to rake probably came from a neighbor living a few blocks away. Everyone take care that has to be out working in this weather.
It now being close to Veterans Day and Thanksgiving some of you may enjoy reading some pages concerning these. I have them posted to my other website with the newest pages being The Forgotten Vets and Remember Your Blessings
Thanks Until Next Time Be Careful Out There!

Thanks to all that gave info and sent pictures to be included in this update. There are new slideshows for BFD, RFD, GFD, and EMS. Also I received the first Reward Request so check the Award Page for Ks Wildlife Officer Mike Hopper's Award. If anyone knows of someone needing and extra Atta Boy or Girl please let me know.
The 2 months in between updates seems to be working so will continue with that until things change. So keep on sending things to include in the next updates.
For you that use the links included on each page to contact me please continue to do so. I just want to say I have changed them a bit to make it harder for the spammers to use the link. Now the robots sending me the junk mail will not be able to do so. Each form now has a security measure to prove it is a real person sending the mail. You will have to type in the letter or numbers to match the picture shown before you can send the mail. I'm sorry to have to do that for the honest emailers but I was getting upwards to 100 or more of the most obnoxious advertizements that was driving me crazier than I already am. Wanting to sell me stuff to make parts larger that I don't even have etc. I was amazed at how fast it cut the spam when I first put the new form on just the Home Page of my other website. It worked wonders so have added it to Those That Serve also. It took awhile to get the link updated on each and every page but I think it is good to go now. So please continue to use the links whenever you have comments about a page or info to share.

I have completed the department updates as best I could with the information given. Thanks to the ones that responded and gave me details to include. The next update will be in about 2 months, I have decided that works better than trying to do one every month. If I ever start getting more information to include I will do more updates sooner. This site can only be as good as what everyone helps make it to be.
The recent severe weather has helped keep many in the different departments busy with storm spotting etc. We knew it was coming but didn't know it would be so bad. Then again it could have been worse, like Greensburg Ks or Holly, Co. The GPD and S.O. pages have slideshows showing some pictures before and after the 03-28-07 storm if you want to view them.
Lets all remember there are 2 Memorial Days during the month of May. The first May 15th is for Law Enforcement Officers that have lost their lifes protecting the rest of us. Then Memorial Day to remember all the military that have given their lives to protect America. I have made a couple of webpages for these days. A Part of America Died for Law Enforcement and The Final Inspection for our military. So enjoy your Memorial Day week end but also remember the reason for the holiday.

I am working on updates and have posted some for the GFD and RFD beings they are the 2 departments that have had the most changes in the past few weeks. I will try to keep them updated as changes occur, which at this time seems to be the roster for GFD. If I miss any changes that someone thinks needs to be mentioned please let me know.
I suppose ready or not it is becoming the season to be aware and be prepared for sever thunderstorms and tornados. The Weather Service has started the annual Storm Spotter Classes. The class for the Goodland area is being held March 14th, 2007. If you didn't make this class and would like to attend one, go to the Weather Service Site to find other area classes.
In preparing for possible dissasters where communications may be shut down there was a recent class for anyone interested in obtaining a Ham Radio License. A Ham Radio can be used for fun if you like to talk to people from around the world and it can be used in situations where other communications may be crippled. With the most recent class several of us that work in the different 911 agencies passed the test and have been officially licensed. The GPD--Chief Smee and Officer Jim Gillespie, Sheriff's Dept.--Deputy Brad Parker, and Dispatch--Darcy Frazier, Julia Crotinger, and Bonnie King. Plus there were several other citizens that took the class and passed the test. Congratulations to all of us!

Unknown Where This Picture Was Taken But It Fits The Weather We Are Having! Thanks to Barb for Sharing this Picture
The weather has been the cause for most news items for the past month. We had a white Christmas and have kept it white since then. At first I thought it was nice because when there is snow my yard looks as good as everyones. But enough is enough, I'm ready for it to warm up so we can complain about the mud. Weather is always good for something to complain about! Over New Year's it was the first time I can remember since I moved to Goodland in 1985 that Goodland put out driving restrictions of 4-wheel drive or vehicles with chains only to be on the streets.
Kudos to the City Street Crew, County Road and Bridge, and KDOT for all the hard work and extra hours in trying to keep the roads clear for the rest of us to use. Mother Nature hasn't made it easy to keep the roads clear. There are a lot of people that have volunteered to help during the storms in transporting workers to the hospital etc. Thanks to all for helping your neighbors or those in need during these storms.
One good thing that came from all the vehicles left in ditches along I-70 until wreckers were able to move them after an accident is: Someone has finally found a way to help prevent all the 911 reports dispatch would get from different people calling to report the same vehicle over and over. The Sheriff Deputies and KHP have started putting different reflector tapes and signs and cones on or near the vehicles. This seems to have helped 99% in stopping all the extra calls. People are able to see and figure out that yes someone has checked the vehicle and we are aware it is there. Simple way to handle it but it works and that it GREAT!
To view all the different pictures posted covering the snow storms be sure to check the GPD, KHP, and Dispatch Pages. The KFD has a Slideshow covering some recent Fire Training they had. Use the links at the top of this page to go to the page of your choice. Thanks

I have tried to update each department covered with this website as best as I could with what
I've had to work with. I wanted to do this before the Holidays get started and I'm going to be busy
and probably won't post anything new until after the New Year. That is unless I get some really
good information and pictures to post before then. :)
If anyone gets bored and needs something new to read before then you can always check out my other
website at www.forwardeasy.com. There are several pages there to keep you busy for awhile and may
even give you a laugh or two.
One thing I wish could be done and maybe a reader can figure out how to accomplish it....IS: Whenever
there is an accident on I-70 or elsewhere and something such as an overturned trailer has to be left
overnight..... We need something to let people know this has been worked and it is not a new accident.
Something simple as reflector tape on poles or something so that most people won't be calling 911
all night reporting it again and again and again. Something each Deputy, Trooper, Officer, or
wrecker service can carry and put up during those times. It would help out the dispatchers and
prevent a lot of extra 911 calls. So you brillant minds out there think up a good solution to
this problem!
I hope to get a lot of new pictures and information to post on the next round of updates. Just think
you can send links to all your family and friends if something is posted that you were involved with.
Let them see what you do for a living or how your volunteering helps in our community. So please
send me your news items.

I've tried to get updates posted for each department but you will find there isn't any for a few of the departments. I haven't made any contacts with BFD. I had thought maybe Trooper Horney would help because he was also a volunteer for BFD but found out he had moved. No one from KHP sent or gave me anything for a new update and I know they have have had events happen. EMS got an update because the GFD shared photos of training with the EMS and Deputy Parker gave me a picture taken at a fire scene of some of the EMS crew. I guess KFD hasn't had anything going on that they wanted to add to their page. I wanted to do an Award this time but never got the picture I was told I'd get to post on the page.
I enjoy doing this site but I'm not the newspaper with reporters to go out and get stories, pictures, etc. I need help and people from the various departments to tell me about training or other items of interest. I thank the ones who try to keep me updated with pictures and info. Kuddos this month to Deputy Parker, Officer Amos, and Firefighter Duell for all the pictures you have given me.
The Weather Service is gearing up for winter weather and are beginning to put out information on the different reports they may put out. Plus on Sat. 10-28-06 10AM-2PM they are having an open house to show everyone how they manage to determine what and how to report the weather. Check out the Goodland Weather Station Website to learn more about the local happenings.

I have finally got new updates posted for all the First Responder 911 Departments. The month
or so that I was unable to work on either of my websites put me way behind. I just work on these
in my spare time so it has taken awhile to get caught up. Thanks to all for your patience and
understanding.
I still haven't worked on the Local Classified section but hope to in the near future. Maybe I just
need some incentive with someone wanting to post an ad. :) Remember to start with they are free
and if it works the future charges will be less than the newspaper or TV ad channels.
Goodland has been hit with a couple of storms in the past few weeks. First the heavy rains and
flooding, then the tornado last Fri and downed trees etc. Everyone worked together well to help
the others in need.
This time I need to thank Joe Greene from the KHP for sending information and Justin Bentzinger
for the RFD Information. If anyone wants to become a volunteer Firefighter with the RFD go to
their page and you will find a link to their job application.
So little by little we are gaining in getting current information and hopefully this site helps
spread the good word about all of the Departments. That is still the main idea behind this website
to show the good, because enough bad gets reported elsewhere.
If you are a first time visitor to this site or not familiar with it, you can use the links at the top
of the page to visit all the different First Responding Departments of Sherman Co. If you are a

me and I will include them in the next update. NOTICE....I said positive comments, I will not post
anything else on this site. There are other places to take your gripes or complaints.
I still need someone to help give information for the EMS, BFD, and the GPD. It wouldn't have to
take a lot of your time to send info about training or photos once a month to help keep this fresh.
June 18-24 is Lightning Awareness Week Check out the National Weather Service Information.
Thanks

It has been a couple of months since I first got this back on line--I'm sorry it took so long to
post more updates. But I am not like the newspaper, I do not have reporters going out gathering
information. For this website to work it needs input from people that work at the various
departments. I want to thank Brad for sending me the info about his S.C. class and Crissy for
getting photos and information for the KFD. Also to Troy for his suggestion about Jeff for the
GFD. But all in all response to giving me any information for these updates was not there. I was
really surprised not to have new photos and info from the RFD, they always had something new to
report in the past.
So anyway if these updates seem weak, I can only go with what I have to work with. So please let
me know what your department is doing concerning training, calls, or anything that you think
would be interesting. Remember this is to be a place people can go to learn and read about the
good things happening within the agencies. Also let me
know when you think someone needs the Atta Boy-Girl page as an extra good job--thank you.
I still haven't gotten the classified page organized yet, but if anyone has anything they want
to sell or looking to buy, I will post an ad for you free of charge. I hope to get more work
accomplished on that before the next updates.
I think the departments these pages are made for work well together. Yesterday morning was a
good example when we were trying to find a guy who had rolled his vehicle somewhere near the
SH/WA Co line and somewhere near 27 Hwy. He called his parents but was not sure where he was etc. Involved in the search was the Sheriff and Deputy from Sherman Co., Med 5 with ambulance crew, Rescue 1 with crew, 2 First responders in their own vehicles, the WA Co Sheriff, then Rural Fire heard what was going on and responded on their own to help in the search. Troopers from Colby and Oakley were also responding, and KHP Dispatch turned the KHP plane from Dodge City to head to our area to help in the search. Now that was a lot of people out searching for this young man. Just so happened his Dad was also searching and found him first. The Accident ended up being in Wallace Co on the Mount Sunflower Road. But Med 5 responded and transporting the boy to the Goodland Hospital. Last I knew his injuries were not serious, a very lucky young man.

I'm backkkkkkkkkkk or at least this website is backkkkkkkkkkk.
Some of you may remember when I had 'Those That Serve' up and running about 2 yrs ago. I took it down because I wasn't getting the help with updates that I needed. But I am willing to try again and hopefully it goes better this time around. I still think it is important to have a place to show the good things all the 911 Departments do. Plus when we all work together it is nice to know the other person a little bit better. At least to understand what the various departments have to contend with.
I hope these current updates make sense because I have been in a hurry to get this up and going. I had made it part of my goal during evaluation last year. About 6 mts ago I bought the rights to use 'Those That Serve' as my website name. No more weird url to try and remember to find this site. No more pop up ads from the free site provider. I do have some sponsor ads running on each page but their is no pop ups. I hope to make enough to pay for the website so if anyone shops on the web think about using some of the links. If you click through from this site I would get the credit.
Eventually I plan on having classified ads on this website. The cost of running a TV ad or newspaper ad is getting higher all the time. If people would use the classifieds it could be done a whole lot cheaper. But for now that will be a while before I get that up and going. As I was saying I had this planned to restart last year and now time is up and I have to get this up and going if I want to meet my goal. I think the Commissioners have hit us early this year on getting the evaluations done. But maybe I just leave things until the last minute.
I suggest you read the Original Page to learn more on why this website was started. There are also a few Previous Home Page Updates that you can also read. I have the links shown in a different color or you can find both the original and previous updates by clicking on the Archive Link at the top of this page. Also use the links on the top to check out all the departments involved with this website.
Also as a reminder I do like to give the AttaBoy or AttaGirl Award to anyone that deserves an extra pat on the back for a job well done. So check out the Award Section and keep it in mind to suggest someone for this Award. No money or prizes involved just a simple Thank You. But as we all know a Thank You can come slowly in our jobs.

Well folks, I had a RUDE awakening this morning! It was a phone call from a telemarketer! It had been a nice quiet 7 months or so
without this type of call. Since I had signed up with the State of Kansas program to have my phone number listed to NOT
receive this type of call. But.........I recently changed to S & T Phone Co. and did not think to register my new phone number.
Needless to say no sooner than I hung up from the unwanted caller telling me about a Wonderful program, I logged on to the net and went and registered my new phone number. But will have a couple of months to put up with the stupid calls until the new listing will take effect. This can be a real pain considering I sleep odd hours.
Just in case you have changed your phone service and didn't think about adding the new phone number to the Don't Call list

Well here it is time to be doing some Updates to these pages. I'll do my best with what I have been
given. I have attempted more contacts with EMS and Kanorado Fire but so far no one has provided
any further information. I wish I had more to include but will work with what I do get. Rural Fire
has again been great in providing pictures and letting us all know what has been happening with
that department. So check out their page and slideshows. Also on the Sheriff's Department page there
is a showing of different shots of a beautiful sunset.
I don't know if anyone ever checks out the links I have posted on the right side of these pages but
I would like to suggest that if you can use the one on the Goodland PD page for emailing our Troops.
This link takes you to the Dear Abby site for emailing the men and women serving in the Armed
Forces. When Abby first started this project it was only done through the Christmas Holidays with
Snail Mail. But after 09-11-01 and the anthrax threats that project was stopped. Now you can
write year round but it is done through the Dear Abby link with emails.
Another site that some of you may be able to help with can be found on the Rescue Page by clicking
onto the CourtHouse Statue. This is a Query Site where people post requests trying to find information
about their ancestors etc. I haven't been able to answer any of the posts but I bet someone in
Sherman County can.
Operation Dear Abby Is a place to write messages to our Armed Forces.
http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/sherman/queries.html Is the site to help someone with ancestor inquiries.

Note: Due to this posting dealing with the new look to the website things like mystery links won't
be available on this Previous Update Page...just on the Regular Website.
To those familiar with this website......I hope you will like this new look. I have spent the last few weeks trying
to upgrade and improve the looks of this site. I suppose working on this website has become my favorite
hobby. Keeping me out of the Bingo Halls---haha! Now I'm home more saving the money I'd spend to
play...as long as I don't think about what I may be missing out on winning! Now I'm sitting in front
of the computer drinking my cokes and relaxing. Not counting the times I'm sitting here wanting to
pull my hair out because something isn't working the way I thought it should. I'm glad Lance is my
friend and he knows a whole lot about this computer stuff and is willing and able to help me.
Besides the looks one of the changes has been to eliminate the old LINKS pages. I have just added them to
these pages. I have tried to put some links on pages I felt they would be of interest for that department.
Others I've just added here and there because I found them interesting or useful. The old Original
Webpages will be put in the new Archives area. The Updates should be easier to find with direct
links from these pages. Just click on one of the buttons on the top of the page to go to the
department of your choosing.
One more thing about links at the bottom of any page that has the waving flag I have added a mystery
link for you to check out...just click on the flag. Some are games I find fun to play others or
just silly things or items I found interesting. I haven't been snowed under with suggestions from
anyone at any of the 911 Departments with items to include so now I'm using alot of stuff I happen
to like. Hopefully some others will also.
